About Luther's Table
The primary way in which God’s people have gathered in community and remembered the faithful acts of God has been around bread and wine. Feeding stories, feasts, and celebrations have been a constant in our history. We remember that Jesus often ate and drank with people who were not part of the “religious establishment”; in fact, this was one of the justifications for his crucifixion, “he eats and drinks with sinners”. Yet the church is often perceived as exclusive and judgmental, encouraging behavior on Sunday that is ignored the rest of the week. We choose instead to follow Jesus’ practice of building relationships around table, and offer Luther’s Table as a gathering place for the people of this community to connect, honor each other’s gifts and talents, and offer gifts of service to others.
Luther's Table is a ministry of St. Matthew's, served by Pastor Gretchen Mertes as mission developer. The ministry is located three miles from the church in downtown Renton. More information is available on the Luther's Table website.
